В exit 0вашем .bash_profileфайле есть, что вызывает bash для выхода. Удалите это, поскольку это не необходимо:

но когда я проверил пользователей, пользователю, которому я пользовался, не разрешили получить доступ к SSH через сервер.

Поэтому я рекомендую вам перепроверить разрешение пользователя, которому ваш пользователь (david) разрешен доступ к SSH на сервере.
